Epilepsy and hormones
Both estradiol and progesterone/allopregnanolone may have beneficial effects for patients with epilepsy.
From epilepsy.com:
What causes seizures to be seen during hormonal changes with menses?...The hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle are the most likely cause of changes in seizure frequency...
Translation: we don't actually fucking know.
What strategies can be used to reduce seizures associated with the menstrual cycle?Certain groups of women were found to benefit from progesterone treatment however.
Progesterone is a precursor for BOTH estrogen AND testosterone. So I have no idea what that means.
Reducing the water retention that occurs in the premenstrual period.
Ah, so MAYBE it's the actual BLEEDING that somehow is the issue and what that does to important things like electrolyte balance in the body. Electrolytes are significant for brain function.
Also fucking also: the BRAIN is THE highest cholesterol organ in the body AND cholesterol is THE precursor to progesterone which is two steps removed from both estrogen and testosterone AND I don't know what the differentiator is.
AND America likes to spout bullshit like "You can never be too rich or too thin" meanwhile we have an EPIDEMIC of fertility issues AND a little known solution for improving fertility in skinny upperclass white bitches is GAIN five pounds.
MAYBE the issue is competition for cholesterol between brain function and hormonal production and no one is looking at THAT.
Generally speaking, fats help stabilize stuff. And are significant for preventing dehydration, similar to oiling a leather canteen to make it hold water.
Source: I have CF and I misprocess salt and fats and blah blah blah.
Maybe someone should do an actual STUDY and GATHER data on things like hormone levels, fat intake, electrolyte balance and hydration in epileptics instead of GUESSING that it's MOST LIKELY the hormones.
If you have epilepsy: Skeptics (start a health journal and do a study of one).
