High Cholesterol

Is it possible to lower my cholesterol without losing weight?

This is at least the second question of this type I've seen recently and I started to try to look up what foods the other guy claimed to be eating, got distracted and blah blah blah.

On the one hand, I've seen substantial evidence in Reddit comments that VEGANS often can't be arsed to learn a thimbleful about nutrition and this apparently fosters an exodus from the vegan nutjob political movement by people whose health has gone to HELL over idiotic reasons like "I can't get enough PROTEIN that way!"

Sweetie, look up protein combining or read the classic Diet for a Small Planet. MOST traditional vegetarian diets have the appropriate ratio of legumes to grains or similar built into their standard recipes.

The author's one regret was feeling like she made it sound HARD to get enough protein from a vegetarian diet. It's not.

I think there are concerns with probably B vitamins and essential dietary fats. To the best of my knowledge, there are no vegetarian sources of cholesterol, though you can build it in house starting with B5.

But I think with enough research etc. this is probably a solvable problem.

Anyway, my guess is a lot of people with high cholesterol are eating worse than they THINK they are.

But I also WONDER if there is something hormone related going wrong in these people, perhaps something which kicks in as you get older in many cases.

Cholesterol is the precursor for multiple hormones in the body, including progesterone, estrogen, testosterone AND vitamin D.

I wonder if pasty white folks who don't really tan are at increased risk of high cholesterol because it's not being converted to vitamin D.

Anyway, I'm wondering if we need to be looking at WHY their body is storing cholesterol and NOT converting it to essential hormones.

I'm pretty sure "It's genetic!" is the new "radiation!" We got Spider-Man, Godzilla and Superman from RADIATION before anyone knew enough about radiation to know those are all ridiculous magic BS.

Calling it "genetic" is code for "I'm a total fucking IDIOT and have NO CLUE what is happening and want to scientifically justify my decision to throw in the towel and pretend it's unfixable and thus a waste of my time to even TRY and sound SMART doing so!!!!"

I have an actual genetic disorder and that means I can tell you what exactly is going wrong at the cellular level and that empowered me to get vastly healthier. It's a miscoded channel in the cell membrane that handles trafficking of specific molecules.

In other words, it's like a broken traffic light snarling things up.

Anyway, filed under KEY because I suspect this will lead me to clues to what the body does and doesn't do with all the EVIL cholesterol we so decry while baffled at rising fertility issues and the trans movement.

Footnote
My big issue with veganism is that it's like a non religious religion where they try to police what OTHER people eat. You eat whatever you believe in for trying to save the planet/political reasons/ whatever (except for cannibalism, which is a NO from me) and butt out of MY health choices, thanks.

I will note that my ex husband and thus my biological children all have lineage from an ethnicity that ate a lot of meat because it's a northern climate where it was hard to establish farming AND they didn't eat much seafood because some of the sea creatures there are poisonous. My anecdotal observation is all three of these people can eat giant piles of meat to a degree that simply does NOT work for me and I NEED more veggies and more variety in my diet.

So this firsthand experience makes me believe that SOME ethnicities are not likely to do well on veganism, such as Inuit and Norwegian peoples or people who have substantial heritage from such populations. This opinion is influenced by the fact that my ex is one half Norwegian (AKA Viking), my kids are one quarter and their dad is vastly worse about acting like a well rounded meal is meat, meat and more meat.

And the ex's meals often contain at least two types of meat. His staples include bacon double cheeseburgers plain, meat lover's pizza and the surf and turf options (steak plus seafood).

But IF you are a judgy preachy vegan on a mission to save the planet by being a food Nazi and trying to dictate how OTHERS eat AND you can't be arsed to learn the most basic things about good nutrition and vegetarianism like protein combining and now you are fleeing your political nutjob movement and decrying it as the work of the devil "because it's scientifically proven NO ONE can get enough PROTEIN that way!" I have neither sympathy nor respect for you.
