Safety Concerns
I'm not linking to what specific post I just read but here are ongoing safety concerns I've read:
1. Injections and cleanliness and other safety issues for someone injecting themselves.
2. Trustworthiness of supplies for DIY HRT without a prescription.
3. DIYing it at all without a doctor.
1. I have a serious condition and I share all concerns about needles, germ control etc. That's why I want to establish HRT via food and supplements as a protocol.
Please note: I am NOT trying to take away any options. I am only trying to ADD more options with an eye to safety and convenience, including safe from the authorities because I don't think it's reasonable to outlaw eating food.
If the nutcases running things try to do that, I think we end up with a situation like we had under Prohibition where EVERYONE was doing illegal stuff because NO ONE agreed this was reasonable.
2. If there are trustworthy, safe options via food and supplements, then hopefully the result is that products in the DIY space become safer because anything too sketchy goes out of business.
I have no problem with market forces leading to a reduction in unsafe sources because there is an option that's reliably SAFE in multiple important metrics.
3. My understanding is that progesterone for MtF HRT is potentially a very conservative means to support breast development and symptom relief and may do at least part of the critical pieces of supporting immune function and making people less suicidally depressed.
I believe Step One on this site produces progesterone from food. I can't prove that.
If you are in dire straits and need a safe, legal means to get SOME relief and want a conservative path that concerned people close to you might be willing to get on board with, you could consider becoming a citizen scientist and trying this approach and documenting if it works for you.
A health journal is a legitimate means to document observable effects, such as breast development, improved immune function and reduced psychological distress.
If you CAN get blood draws showing hormone levels in specific, fantastic! That would be the strongest possible support this actually works.
But the trans community is already sharing DIY information via online discussion because they are between a rock and a hard place. If you are up shit creek without a paddle, why not try to help prove if this approach works or not?
If it fails, then maybe while pursuing this, you learn more and find answers you and your people are more comfortable with for some reason than your current options.
If it succeeds, the trans community has another option that is as safe as the highly regulated FOOD industry.
I will NOT be the one trying to run a discussion forum or other means to crowd source this information. I have a conflict of interest.
The trans community should check it for themselves and determine if this actually works or not. This will only ever become a viable alternative IF it's a grass roots movement by the people involved who trust EACH OTHER.
